Year 8 English

Year 8 Students have been studying poetry this term, where they had the opportunity to read, analyse and deconstruct poems from all around the world. We commenced the unit with a look at Japanese poetry, where students analysed haiku poems and then moved on to deconstructing performance poetry. Once the students completed their assessment tasks and performed their poems to the whole class, we moved on to analysing indigenous poems by the famous poet, Oodgeroo Noonuccal. All students seemed quite engaged and they especially enjoyed watching others perform and recite slam poetry.

Year 10 English

Year 10 students were given the opportunity to learn about social justice issues through a film study of 'The Hurricane'. Students have extended their understanding of prejudicial views and have focused on the way composers position the audience into accepting their version of the truth. Students were asked to present a speech based on the concept of truth and how it is represented in a variety of text types. They seemed to have enjoyed the unit and have also commented that they can no longer watch a film without analysing cinematic techniques. Looking forward to completing the year with a poetry unit next term.
